Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 11 Dec. 1913.

At her home in St. Olaf Friday evening, Nov. 28th, at seven-thirty o'clock, occurred the death of Mrs. Embret Knudson.

Mrs. Knudson had long been a sufferer of heart trouble. This alone made her family and friends realize that her stay upon earth was short. Everything that medical skill and loving hands could do to relieve her suffering was done, but all in vain. She continued to grow weaker as the days passed on until Friday evening when she died suddenly and without struggle. Through all her sickness no word of complaint escaped her lips. She always greeted her friends with a smile and cheerful words. Her life was one of devotion to her family and they will mourn the absence of a kind and loving wife and mother.

It is sad to part thus. Yet she laid down the burden of life, firm in the belief that she was saved and going to God, everlasting glory and happiness, and in the brighter world beyond, where pain and suffering are unknown. So close to us and yet so completely hidden from view, she will guard and watch over the loved ones left behind and in the memories of the past and the hopes of the future may the sorrowing ones find comfort and consolation.

Magdelena Harthmann was born in Preusen, Germany, July 7th, 1848, and died at her home in St. Olaf Nov. 28th 1913. Besides her husband she leaves to mourn her loss the following children: Wm. Carney, Fredericksburg, Ia.; Mrs. Edwin Olson, Clermont, Ia.; Mrs. H. W. Wilke and Mrs. Herbert Orvis, of St. Olaf, and Laura, Elmer and Earl, at home.

Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock and she was laid to rest in the Norway Lutheran cemetery, Rev. Arveson officiating.
