Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 30 Oct. 1913.
After many months of sickness, during which he was confined to his bed, and tenderly cared for by his daughter and granddaughter, Mr. Perry Watkins, of Osborne, Clayton County, passed to his eternal reward on Thursday of last week.
Mr. Watkins was born in Pennsylvania June 9th, 1821, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Peter Debes, Oct. 23rd, 1913, aged 92 years, four months and fourteen days. When quite young Mr. Watkins went with his parents from Pennsylvania to Connecticut, where he lived and was married to Elizabeth Dunn. In the year 18_7 (looks like 1857 or 1867) he moved to Wisconsin and lived at Fort Crawford for about two years, after which he came to Clayton County, Iowa, where he has resided ever since, making his home, the last years of his life, with his only daughter.
Mr. Watkins was a highly respected citizen and well spoken of by all who knew him. He was a member of the Adventist church for many years, a devoted and religious man, a lover of the Bible and well versed in its teachings, a man who knew much of the ups and downs of earthly life, but his faith was in God and he was patient in his sufferings. But his days are numbered. His labors are ended and his warfare has passed into the triumphs of the Christian's faith.
The funeral service was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Debes, conducted by the Rev. W. Piper, of the M.E. church of Volga City. His mortal remains were laid to rest by the side of his wife, in the little cemetery near Osborne, to await the morn of the resurrection.
