George M'Cann was born in Farnham, England (his father being a clergyman in the Methodist church, his mother a daughter of English landowners) and died in Fayette, Oct. 1.

At the age of sixteen he entered the British navy and at twenty-one received his honorable discharge at Quebec, Canada. After two years in Canada he went to Wisconsin, where he was construction foreman on the Green Bay railroad. There he met and was united in marriage with Miss Permilia Tuttle in 1873 and to this union eight children were born, two having died. In 1875 he removed his family to Mederville, Iowa, where he was employed by the C. M. & St. P. railroad company. From there he moved to Volga City and continued to work for the railroad company.

In 1905 he removed to Fayette and worked at the shoe trade until three years ago, when his health failed him. He joined the Masonic Order in Arcadia, Wis., Oct. 4, 1881 in which order he remained until his death, which occurred at his home in Fayette about midnight Oct. 1st.

He is survived by his wife and six children: George Jr., of Wisconsin; Harris and Hadwin, of Fayette, and three married daughters living in Fayette County, and all attending the funeral except George, Jr. One sister, Miss Anna M'Cann, of Ramonsville, Texas, survives him, and many other relatives. The funeral was held from the home at 9:30 o'clock Friday, conducted by Rev. Hadwin Williams, of Sumner. Burial was at Volga.
