Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 18 Sept. 1913. Guttenberg column.
On Sunday afternoon, at 4:30 o'clock at her home in this city occurred the death of Mrs. John C. Kuempel, nee Eliza Sharp, after ten days illness, the cause of her death being a complication of diseases. Deceased was born at West Point, N.Y., on July 8, 1852, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Sharp. In August 1855, she came to Clayton County, Iowa, with her parents and settled at Clayton, where she was united in marriage to John C. Kuempel on December 15th, 1875. In the year 1900 the Kuempel family came to Guttenberg, where she lived until her death, her husband being the senior member of the hardware firm, Kuempel Bros., in this city. She was a faithful member of the Methodist church, and was a good and true wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, and was loved by all who knew her and therefore will be sadly missed by all. Besides her husband, her death is deeply mourned by two sons, Lee Kuempel, of Minneapolis, Minn.; and Reuben Kuempel, at home; her aged father, Henry Sharp, of Clayton; one sister, Mrs. Mary E. Hodge, of Austin, Ill., and a large number of relatives and friends. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Lusk, of McGregor, officiated. The remains were laid to rest in the City Cemetery.
