Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 25 Sept. 1913. Condensed. The article did not credit another newspaper.

Edward Leander Penhollow was born in Mallory township Clayton County, Iowa, March 26th, 1859, and entered into rest August 27th, 1913, in Derinda, Ill.

On Sept. 29th, 1884, he was united in marriage with Mary Harrison. She, with the following children, survive the loss of a kind and tender husband and father: Mrs. Floretta Dixon, of Loran, Ill.; Mrs. Addie Isenberger, late of Jamestown, N.D; Mrs. Mattie Nielson and George H., of Mt. Carroll, Ill., and Shirley V., at home; also six grandchildren. He was one of thirteen children, the family circle being unbroken until three sons were taken away in early manhood, the oldest son George, being one of those who fell in defense of his country and Henry and Jason, who died several years later. His parents were Richard and Mercy Penhollow, who were natives of the State of New York and trace their lineage back to the Revolution. His great-grandfather was one of the famous "Boston Tea Party," who helped throw the tea overboard in Boston Harbor.

They came to Iowa in their early married life. He also leaves four brothers, Roswell B., of Norfolk, Neb.; W. H., of Waterloo, Iowa; Ansel E., of Millville, Iowa, and Ernest M., of Osterdock; also two sisters, Mrs. Helen Holtzman, and Mrs. Fred Chittenden, both of Fayette, Iowa. Three sisters are deceased, Euphrasia, Melvina and Marinda.

Mr. and Mrs. Penhollow began their early married life in Iowa, where they lived for several years and later they moved to Durand, Wis., where about twenty years ago they united with the M.E. church. The family came to Illinois about thirteen years ago, where he has since resided.

His funeral services were held Aug. 30th, a short service being held at the house and then proceeded to the Pleasant Valley Bethel church. Rev. John M. McKinley preached a comforting sermon followed by Rev. B. H. Rogers who paid tribute to the deceased. The remains were laid to rest in the Pleasant Valley cemetery where the Kramer Quartette sang, at the lowering of the casket, "Asleep In Jesus, Blessed Sleep."

Those from a distance who attended were: W. H. Penhollow of Waterloo; Ansel E. and Ernest, of Clayton County Iowa; Richard Penhollow, of Millville; Mrs. Helen Holtzman and son, Orman E., and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Chittenden, of Fayette, Iowa.
