Robert “Bob” Walke, age 77, of Guttenberg, IA, died Wednesday, June 19, 2019. He was born on January 6, 1942 in Communia, IA, the son of Kenneth & Eunice (Zittergruen) Walke.

Bob was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elkport. He graduated from the Guttenberg High School and furthered his education at Wartburg College. For many years Bob tilled the land on his family’s farm outside of Guttenberg until his retirement.

On May 7, 1966, Bob was united in marriage with Joan Burrack at the Lutheran Church in Farmersburg, IA, and together they were blessed with three daughters, Traci, Desiree & Stephanie.

During his time on earth, Bob was very involved with community and social organizations such as serving as a Clayton County Supervisor for 24 years. He also served on the Clayton County Fair Board, Northeast Iowa Antique Association, Prairie La Porte Masonic Lodge in Guttenberg, El Kahir Shrine in Cedar Rapids where he served on the Color Guard, Guttenberg School Board, Jesters, 4-H & Northeast Iowa Shrine. Outside of his civic duties, Bob enjoyed golfing, gardening, woodworking, playing cards and attending flea markets.

Bob will be forever loved and cherished by his wife of 53 years, Joan; daughters Traci (Cory) Ryan, Desiree Walke, and Stephanie (Josh) Chappell; grandchildren; Paige Grohn and Gracelyn Chappell; mother Eunice Walke and many other relatives and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his Father Kenneth Walke in 1982.

Bob’s family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the Hawkeye, IA, First Responders, Fayette County Sherriff’s Department & Ambulance Crew and the staff at Gunderson Palmer Lutheran Hospital in West Union for their care and compassion.
