Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 29 May 1913.

The death of Mrs. Mathew Fitzpatrick occurred Wednesday afternoon, May 28th, at about three o'clock. She had been in poor health for a number of years and since last fall had been confined to her bed much of the time, suffering from a complication of kidney and heart trouble. A few weeks ago her condition became so serious that the services of a trained nurse were secured and a specialist called, but medical skill and loving care were unable to save her life. Her appointed hour was determined and yesterday afternoon she gradually, and peacefully sank to the sleep of death.

Elizabeth Connell was born in Read township in this county September 2nd, 1859, the youngest daughter of Patrick and Sarah Connell, pioneer residents of that township. She grew to womanhood on the farm where she was born and on April 11, 1882, was united in marriage with Mathew Fitzpatrick at St. Joseph's church in this city, Rev. J. J. Quigley officiating. Their home has been in Elkader ever since, Mr. Fitzpatrick being engaged in the practice of law and abstracting.

Seven children came to cheer and bless their lives, six of whom are still living to sorrow with their father over the loss they have sustained. They are: Mary E., now Mrs. T. J. Foley, of Sheridan, Wyoming; Dr. Mathew J., of Mason City, Iowa; Edward C., Ellen C., James F., and Catherine R., at home. Another daughter, Caroline D., died 1n 1898. Mrs. Fitzpatrick also leaves a sister, Miss James Foran and a brother, James Connell, with other relatives and many close friends to mourn her death.

She was a devoted wife and mother, a kind neighbor and a good friend. Her interest was in her home and family and in her church, of which she had been an earnest member all her life.

The funeral services will be held tomorrow, Friday morning, at 10:00 o'clock, Rev. Fathers J. J. Reilly, of Elkader, M. F. Eardley, of Belmond, D.T. Minogue, of Elkport, and Thos. Dowling, of McGregor, officiating at Solemn High Mass, after which her remains will be laid in St. Joseph's cemetery.

The sympathy of our community is with the bereaved ones.

(Note: The article clearly states her sister as Miss James Foran, but may have meant to say Mrs. James Foran.)
