Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 10 Apr. 1913. Farmersburg column.
Joachim Kluth, child of Christopher and Hanna Kluth, was born in Mecklenburg, Schweringen, in the village of Rafto, Germany, October 3rd, 1831.
At the age of 26 he came to this country and was married to Maria Schumaker, at Clayton Center. This union was blessed with 10 children, four boys and six girls.
Of these three sons and three daughters have preceded their father in death. On May 14th, 1903, his wife was bourne to her final resting place.
Deceased first made his home near Clayton Center, until about forty-six years ago, when he moved into the neighborhood of Farmersburg, being one of the old settlers in these parts.
The last five years of his life were spent at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. C. Oelke, where he received loving care until his death on Saturday morning, March 29th, at five o'clock, at the age of 81 years, five months and twenty-six days.
He was a good neighbor and kind father. His death is mourned by four children: Mrs. Elizabeth Mann, of Langford, S.D.; and Mrs. Mary Oelke, Mrs. Friedericka Church and Ernest Kluth, of this place; besides many relatives and friends.
The floral offerings were large and beautiful. The funeral was held on Monday afternoon, March 31st, at one o'clock at the German Lutheran church, Rev. Theo. F. Guetzlaff officiating. Interment in Farmersburg cemetery. The family has the sympathy of all in their bereavement.
