He came here in 1865 and has been a continuous resident for 48 years. Mr. Opperman contracted a cold a few days before he died and this coupled with old age caused his death. John Henry Opperman was born in Wetteburn, Hanover, Germany, September 17, 1834. He came to America with his parents in 1855 and settled at Platteville, Wis. In April, 1862, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Kramer and in 1865 they came to Iowa and located on a farm near St. Sebald. To Mr. and Mrs. Opperman were born eleven children, four of whom preceded him in death.
