Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 3 Apr. 1913.

The death of Mrs. E. Kaltenbach occurred Saturday, March 29th, in the 76th year of her life. She had been in poor health for nearly a year, but was only confined to her bed a little over a year.

Josephine Siedle was born at New Kirch, Schwartzwald, in the vicinity of Freiburg, Baden, Germany, December 11th, 1837. In 1849 she came to this country with her parents, who located in Erie, Pa. Later she came west and on Sept. 9th, 1862, she was united in marriage with Engelbert Kaltenbach at Potosi, Wis., and came to Elkader, where he was engaged in the jewelry and watchmaking business. This has been her home ever since, a period of over fifty years.

Twenty-one years ago, the anniversary being the date of her own death, her beloved husband and companion passed away. Since that time she and their daughter, Miss Fannie, have carried on the business so firmly established by the father on the basis of integrity, industry and skill.

Mrs. Kaltenbach is survived by her daughter, companion and business assistant for many years and watched over her with ever increasing tenderness as the shadows of age and infirmity gathered, also by a sister and brothers at Erie, Pa., and other relatives.

She was a woman of culture and refinement, respected by all and devotedly loved by the friends who knew her best. She was devoted to her home and family and to her church, a woman of high ideals and earnest purposes. She was patient in the sufferings of her illness and past peacefully to rest, confident in the promises of her faith.

Funeral services were held in St. Joseph's church Tuesday morning, conducted by Rev. J. F. Reilly. Interment was in St. Joseph's cemetery.

The many old time friends and neighbors among our readers will join with us in dropping a wreath for her at memory's shrine and in sympathy for the daughter, who will miss the companionship and the service of love that has so long been here.
