Mrs. Elizabeth Montz was born in Germany Dec. 25th, 1833, and died at her home near Volga Feb. 5th, 1913, aged 79 years, one month and 10 days. When about the age thirteen she came to America. In 1853 she was married to John Montz in the state of New York. To this union eight children were born, five of whom survive her, namely: Mrs. Geo. Humbert and Mrs. Geo. Lette, of Volga; Mrs. Ed. Bassett, of Arlington; M. C. Montz, of Wichita, Kansas; and J. J. Montz, of Arlington. They came to Iowa in 1868, settling near Volga, where she resided until death. Her husband died Feb. 19th, 1894. She also leaves twenty-two grandchildren.

The funeral was held at her home at eleven o'clock Saturday, Feb. 8th, conducted by Rev. Soule, of Arlington.
