ELMER LOUIS DRAHN

Elmer Louis Drahn was born July 29, 1909 in Farmersburg Township, Clayton County, Iowa, the son of Henry and Mathilda (Schiff) Drahn. He was baptized August 15, 1909 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, National, Iowa by Rev. Otto Wappler and confirmed September 24, 1922 at St. Peter's by Pastor C. Meyn. He attended the Hawkeye Grade School and graduated from Monona High School in 1927. On August 8, 1933 he was united in marriage to June Fox at Galena, IL. They had five children. They started farming in Grand Meadow township, south of Postville and moved to the home farm in March, 1938. They moved to Farmersburg in 1953. Elmer sold seed corn for 16 years, until he was forced to retire because of a heart condition. He suffered a stroke November 1, 1981 which left him partially paralyzed. He again suffered a severe stroke on Feb. 1 and was taken to the Elkader Hospital where he died Feb. 6, 1986.

Preceding him in death were his two infant sons and a brother Leslie.

Surviving is his wife, June, a son Roger and wife Virginia, Monona, two daughters, Bonnie, her husband Dale Henning, McGregor and Carole, her husband Louis Holly, Monticello, grandchildren Rick and Dennis Drahn, Kevin and Kent Henning, Jeff Holly and Christi Gesie, 9 great grandchildren, a brother Elvie of Monona, three sisters, Mrs. Henry (Phyllis) Lubbers, Farmersburg, Mrs. Almira Schweikert, Salem, OR, Mrs. Harold (Berdina) Neverman, Cedar Rapids, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 9 at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Farmersburg. Rev. Bob Edwards officiated. Pallbearers were Dennis Drahn, Kevin Henning, Kent Henning, Jeff Holly, Michael Gesie, Rich Drahn. Interment was in St. Paul's Cemetery. Monona. Schultz's Funeral Home was in charge of services.
