Harry Gordon

Funeral services for Harry Gordon were held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Luana. Rev. Ted Ager officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Harry William Gordon, son of Howard and Clara (Thoma) Gordon, was born November 25, 1910 in Postville. He died Wednesday at Community Memorial Hospital in Postville.

He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. He attended the Postville Schools.

August 12, 1931 he was married to Mabel Sander at Luana. They were parents of 4 children. They lived in the Waukon, Postville and Luana areas. Prior to his retiring in 1975 he worked in the grocery department of the Postville Farmers Cooperative Society for 25 years.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Luana, where he sang in the choir for 40 years and was on the church council. He also belonged to the Lutheran Brotherhood, the Luana Fire Department and served on the Luana Town Council.

Surviving are his wife, Mabel, 3 sons, Duane and wife, Janet, of Camp Hill, PA, Ronald and his wife, Myrna, of Albuquerque, NM and Merle (Mike) and his wife, Connie, of Rochester, MN, a daughter, Marilyn, and her husband, Roger Christofferson of Postville, 11 grandchildren, Coleen Toenges, LuAnn Swenson, Judy Wolfe, Gynnilee Moser, Karen Osswald, Gwen Evarts, Dennis, Greg, Darci, Kris and Tim Gordon, 10 great grandchildren, Joshua and Jason Toenges, Heather, Erika, Crystal and Jesse Swenson, George Osswald, Aaron, Andy and Adam Evarts.

Casket bearers were Time Gordon, Dennis Gordon, Greg Gordon, Duane Toenges, Hall Swenson and George Osswald.
