Mabel Gordon
Services for Mabel Gordon who died Nov. 8 at her home in Luana were held on Nov. 11 at the St. John Lutheran Church with burial in the Church Cemetery in Luana. Pastor Gene Kramer conducted the services and Helmuth Landt was organist. The Schutte Funeral Services of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were: Jim Knowlton, Hall Swenson, Greg Gordon, Tim Gordon, Duane Toenges, Dennis Gordon, William Staley and Rick Sather.
She was born on Sept. 29, 1909 to George and Augusta (Kamps) Sander near Postville. She was baptized and confirmed in St. John Lutheran Church at Luana. She attended the Cherry Valley School. She married Harry William Gordon on August 12, 1931 at Luana. They lived in the Waukon, Postville and Luana areas. Mabel had been employed as a cook in the Luana School for many years.
She is survived by 3 sons: Duane of Camp Hill, PA; Ronald of Albuquerque, NM and Merle of Rochester, NM; a daughter Marilyn of Postville; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 sisters; Mrs. Elliot (Dorothy) Neuhring of Decorah and Mrs. Harlan (Martha) Heins of Luana.
She is preceded in death by her husband Harry who died June 26, 1985.
Mabel was a member of the Women of the Church and the Town and Country Club.
