Elkader Register, Thur., 5 Sept. 1907.
At his home in Elkader at about 3:30 Friday morning, Aug. 30, 1907, Michael Donahue passed away to the silent beyond. He had been in poor health for some time, but it was not until a day or two before his death that it was thought that his condition was so serious.
Mr. Donahue was born in March, 1825, in Longford county, Ireland. He came to America in 1850, and resided in Boston, Mass., until 1855, when he came to Clayton county. In 1861 he was united in marriage with Catherine Gallagher. To them were born five children, two sons and three daughters, James, Anna and Bridget, of Elkader, Thomas, who resides on the old farm in Read twp., and Mrs. John Medary, of Highland twp. Mrs. Donahue died Dec. 10th, 1889, and a few years ago Mr. Donahue and the children, excepting Thomas, moved to Elkader.
Having been acquainted with Mr. Donahue for over a quarter of a century, the writer has only known him as a pleasant, peaceful citizen, honorable in all his dealings and beloved by his family. A good man has gone to his rest. Peace be with him.
The funeral was held Sunday morning at St. Joseph's church, Rev. J. F. Reilly officiating. The interment was made in the Catholic cemetery at Garnavillo.
Those in attendance at the funeral from abroad were Mrs. F. H. Larkin, Luverne, Minn., Mrs. T. H. Cullen, Cylinder, Ia., and W. A. Donahue, Whittemore, Ia. J. Gallagher and Mrs. T. H. McCorville, of Hollendale, Wis., arrived too late to attend the last sad rites.
