John Beatty was born in Monongahela county, West Virginia, September 28th, 1827. When he was a child, nine months of age, he moved with his parents to Ohio, living there until he was three years old, when he moved back to West Virginia, where he remained until twenty-one years old.

He was united in marriage to Anna Hill, January 8th, 1849. Two years afterward he moved west, locating in Clayton county, Iowa, April 16th, 1851, where he lived until his death, which occurred, June 9th, 1907, aged 79 years, 9 months and 11 days.

The deceased leaves a wife, two sons, Rupert and Emory Beatty, four sons having preceded their father to the other shore, also one sister, Mrs. Harriet Porter, who lives with her daughter at Colesburg, Iowa, and eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, also mourn his loss. Mr. Beatty was a loving husband, a true friend and a good neighbor and will be greatly missed in this community.
