Died - At her late home in Farmersburg, Margaret Barnum Looby, wife of Edward Looby, April 1st, 1914, at 7:30 a.m.

Margaret Barnum was born in Sandusky, Ohio, Feb. 24, 1850, came with her parents to Farmersburg in 1853, this being her home for 61 years. She was married to Edward Looby on his return from the rebellion, at Prairie du Chien, Wis., January 24, 1866.

Of this union twelve children were born, five of whom preceded the mother in death. Those surviving are Mrs. Hy Oelke, Jr.; Wm. E. Looby; Obas. Looby of Farmersburg; Mrs. Bert Mathews, Elkader; Richard Looby, Monona; Mrs. Hugo Engelhart, St. Olaf; Mrs. Nels R. Arveson, Osnabrock, N.D.

Besides these children she leaves the aged husband, two sisters, Mrs. Alex Porter, Strawberry Point, Iowa and Mrs. Walter Jerrod, Chester, Iowa; a brother James of Sandusky, Ohio and brother Will of Albert Lee, Minn.; and twelve grandchildren, one being a son of her daughter, Mrs. John Seery who died in Chicago in 1907, leaving to Grandma Looby the care of a little son 3 years old. His grandmother performed her trust faithfully and well.

All these relations mourn the loss of a painstaking home-maker, a good wife, sister, mother and a good neighbor well known for over a half century by many of our citizens. She had seen Iowa develop from a boundless, trackless prairie to one of the leading states of the union. No pen can pay too high a tribute to these women.

Hundreds of friends respect the memory of such women as was Margaret Looby. A large gathering of friends accompanied the remains to Monona, where interment took place under services conducted by Rev. Fr. Hogan. The sympathy of many here and readers of the Times in distant states will go out to those who mourn.
