Elkader Register, Thur., 13 June 1907. Local News columns.
Michael J. Jensen, familiarly known to most people as "Charley", passed away about 1:00 o'clock p.m. Sunday, June 9th. His death was the result of the fearful fall of some 29 feet he had on May 29th, while raising the frame of a barn at John Ehrhardt's. For several days after the accident it was thought he might recover, but brain complications set in which have caused his death.
He was born at Aarhus, Denmark, Nov. 21, 1866, and came to America in 1888, most of the time since then he has made his home in Elkader, working at the carpenter trade at which he was a skilled workman. For a number of years he has been in the construction business and many of Elkader's best buildings are samples of his skill. He was married in 1895 to Agnes Mueller, who, with two little daughters and a son, is left to mourn his death. His father, three brothers and five sisters are living in the old country.
The funeral services were held Tuesday, under the auspices of Mystic Camp 319 M.W.A., of which Mr. Jensen was a member. Rev. F. Leonhard conducted the service at the German church and the Modern Woodman held their special service at the cemetery. Despite the unfavorable weather there was a large turnout of the neighbors, many being present from adjoining camps.
"Goodbye, farewell, neighbor, peace, peace be with thee and thy family."
Note: burial is in East Side cemetery, Elkader
