Elkader Register, Thur., 16 May 1907. Local News columns.
This community was shocked when the news was spread that between six and seven o'clock this morning Mrs. Chas. H. Switzer had passed away.
About ten days ago she gave birth to a son and until Monday it was thought she was doing as well as could be expected. The past two days she has been growing worse. It is stated that her death was caused by pneumonia.
It is a sad blow for Mr. Switzer, who is left with an infant son and an aged father. Mr. and Mrs. Switzer came here about three years ago and took charge of the Branch restaurant. For the past two years Mr. Switzer has been employed in the store of H. W. & G. H. Wilke but recently engaged with Frank Niemeyer. He has made many friends here who regret the great affliction that has come upon him.
We learn that Mr. Switzer has no relatives in this state, the most of them residing in Ohio, and that the remains of Mrs. Switzer will be taken there for burial.

Elkader Register, Thur., 23 May 1907.
At her home in Elkader on Thursday morning, May 16th, after a short illness from pneumonia, occurred the death of Mrs. Charles H. Switzer.
Mildred Blanche Stroup was born June 11th, 1879, at Spencer, Ohio. On Nov. 16th, 1898, she married Mr. Switzer and in December of that year came to Monona, Iowa, to reside. They made their home on a farm near Monona until about three years ago, when they moved to Elkader. She united with the M.E. church at Polk, O., in 18__ (looks like 1890), and later affiliated with the M.E. church at Monona.
She leaves a husband and an infant son, a sister at Crestine, O., and a brother at Gali_n, O.
Although deceased had lived here but a few years she had acquired a large circle of friends, who deeply mourn her untimely death and sympathize with the nearly heart broken husband.
A short funeral service was held at the residence Friday morning by Rev. A. S. Hock, which was attended by B.A.Y. Homestead No. 2__, of which deceased was a member, and the Odd Fellows lodge and a large concourse of citizens.
They escorted the remains to the depot from whence they were taken to Spencer, Ohio, for interment.
