Sophia Christine Seidel was born March 2nd, 1841, in Gulzow, Amt., Stavenhagen, Germany, and was 66 years, 2 months old at the time of her death, which occurred last Thursday ay 6:40 p.m. Her maiden years were spent in the parental home. On the 26th of May, 1865, she was married to Fred Hamann, who departed this life on the 30th of May, 1898. During the year 1873, Mr. and Mrs. Hamann emigrated to America and located in Kendallville, Ind., where they resided nine years and then became permanent residents of Garnavillo. In former years deceased enjoyed good health, but her strength and vigor gave way to malignant ailments during advanced age. Despite medical aid, an internal cancerous growth made slow but sure progress, causing the victim to become bedfast since last December. This occasioned much pain and suffering and in the beginning it seem unreasonable to the patient to be reconciled to such a fate., but as the days and weeks lingered on she bore her cross more patiently and as the end drew near was ready and willing to depart. Her cheerful disposition and her motherly care will be greatly missed by her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Havill, with whom she made her home after the death of her husband, also by her granddaughter Iowa, whom she idolized. Three brothers, Karl and Henry, of Kendallville, and John, of this place, also survive. Funeral services were held Sunday at 1:00 o'clock p.m., at the residence and at 1:30 in St. Peter's Lutheran church, after which deceased was laid tenderly to rest beside her husband in the old cemetery. Rev. Mall officiated and a large concourse of friends were assembled.
