Elkader Register, Thur., 09 May 1907. Garnavillo News column.
Henry Ludwig Mueller, another old and respected resident of this county, who recently passed his 85th year, has been summoned to eternal rest. He was born March 10th, 1822, in Kunow, Mecklenberg, Schwerin. In 1853 he and his wife, Dorothea Pahlas, came to this country and took up abode on a farm in Jefferson twp., Clayton Co. Twelve years later they moved to Farmersburg twp., where they remained until six years ago, when they came to Garnavillo to live with their daughter, Mrs. Anna Pahlas. Mr. Mueller, being favored with a hearty and robust constitution, led an active life until last fall when the feebleness of age sorely depressed him. He was able to sit up most of the time, however, but realized that his life was quickly ebbing out to its close., earth's joys grew dim to him, his glories passed away and he was wont to say "Change and decay in all around I see. O thou, who changest not, abide with me." He died peacefully at 1:00 o'clock p.m., on the 3rd of May, 1907. His funeral, which was largely attended, took place Tuesday afternoon, at the late residence, and later in St. Peter's Lutheran church, Rev. Mall officiating. The coffin, containing the remains, was placed in an anti-rust safety vault and interment made in the new cemetery. Deceased is survived by his wife, three sons, viz: Ludwig, of Farmersburg twp.; John, of Clayton twp.; and Henry, of Garnavillo twp., and four daughters, Mrs. Maria Tuecke, Mrs. Anna Pahlas, Mrs. Dorothea Hempeler, all residents of Garnavillo, and Mrs. Mathilda Turner, of Fonda, Ia., also nineteen grandchildren.
