Elkader Register, Thur., 7 Mar. 1907.

The sudden death on Wednesday, February 27th, 1907, of Urias Kerr, at his home in Volga City, was a great shock to the community in which he was one of the most popular and rising men. He had just concluded arrangements for the removal of his family to Volga City, where he had recently purchased a home.

On Tuesday evening, Feb.. 26, after a very strenuous day's work conducting his sale, he complained of feeling ill and of an excruciating pain in his head. From that time he grew steadily worse and at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday he passed away.

Mr. Kerr was born May 19th, 1867, in Highland twp., this county, the son of James and Elizabeth Kerr, and for nearly forty years of his life lived in this vicinity.

He married Miss Isabelle Griswold, of Volga City, and to them were born three children, Amie, Nettie and James, who, with the wife and mother, survive to mourn the loss of a loving father and husband.

He also leaves to mourn his death, the fourth in a large family, his aged father, five brothers, James, Thomas, Robert, John and Henry, and six sisters, Mrs. Wm. Young, Mrs. George Fairweather, Mrs. Charles Melber and Mrs. Willis P_____, of Chicago; and Mrs. Wilbur Bailey and Mrs. Maurice Lamphier, of Highland township.

The heartfelt sympathy of the community goes out to the bereaved family who are so suddenly called to mourn a loved one. The funeral was held at the Presbyterian church at Volga City Friday afternoon, attended by a large concourse of sorrowing friends. The interment was in the Volga City cemetery.
