Elkader Register, Thur., 28 Feb. 1907.

About 5:30 o'clock, Thursday evening, Feb. 21st, 1907, Mrs. J. E. Branch peacefully passed away to rest. She had been suffering from poor health for some time and rallied at times and seemed to be much stronger, but was not able longer to combat the infirmities consequent on her advanced age.

Sarah, daughter of Andrew and Eliza Crust, was born in Chester county, Pennsylvania, Nov. 3, 1830. In her death passes away the last member of the Crust family. In the fall of 1854 She came west and located at National, Iowa. In March, 1855, she was married to J. E. Branch. The young couple made Farmersburg their home until 1858, when they moved onto a farm in Boardman township, where they lived until 18__, when they took up their residence in Elkader. Six children were born to them of whom four are now living: Mrs. Charles Bennington, of Volga, Iowa; Mrs. H. R. Carpenter, of Elkader; Fred F. Branch, of Storm Lake, Iowa; and Mrs. Cora Jewell, of Arlington, Iowa. All of them were present at her deathbed. Her husband, four children, eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren are living to mourn the loss of a good wife and a faithful mother, one whose greatness was in her simple life and devotion to the interests of her family.

The funeral services were held at the Congregational church on Saturday Feb. 23, 1907. Rev. A. S. Bock, her pastor, preached the sermon and interment was in the East Side cemetery.

Six of her grandsons served as pall bearers.
