Born in Kinmare, Kerry, Ireland, April 15th, 1838. Died June 11th, 1910, aged 72 years. Came from Ireland at 11 years of age, being shipped with his brother aged 13 by an elder brother to Montreal. Had to rough it and fight his way in life, and won out after a hard struggle. He came to Iowa in 1856; worked as a farmer till 1860, when he married Melinda Frances; four sons and four daughters were born to this union.
He visited Coleman, Texas, where some of his children resided, 5 years ago for a short stay; then again for a short stay, and 2 years ago removed there where he died. One of his son's and wife died a few years ago and were buried where he now rests in the National cemetery. He was buried June 16th, 1910. It is noteworthy that he was a member of a Christian church over 50 years, and by his example and life leaves a worthy record behind him.
The remains of Mr. Foley reached Monona on the 16th, and the funeral was held at the Congregational church on the 17th, Rev. King officiating. Following the service the funeral cortage wended its way to the National cemetery, where rests this pioneer and worthy citizen.
