20 Apr 1916 – North Iowa Times

Anthony Grady, born in October 1839, in Clare Island, County Mayo, Ireland. Married in 1861 to Mary Burns of his home place.

In March 1870, Mr. and Mrs. Grady came to America, coming direct to North McGregor, settling on and adjoining the home of Mr. Cannon, who arrived from the same place in Ireland just two weeks previous. Thus for forty-seven years these two men, comrades in boyhood days on the soil of Erin were comrades still under the stars and stripes, until two weeks ago, when the life long friend passed into that other world where he will greet the friend of years. When the rough battle of life was done, tho call of the Master fell, and the body responded, a useful life went out to rest in a higher home where all is light, joy and no sorrow.

Two weeks ago, Mr. Grady began to feel the pangs of failing health and every care possible, and able medical attention were given him , but to no avail Friday, April 14, 1916, at 2:30 a. m, he passed away, with his loved ones around him. Thus the home circle will miss the cheery greeting of father and husband, who so first thought was ever for those about him. He found the good and true worth in everyone, and he counted all as his friends, He was so sincerely a friend, so beloved in his home, that he needs no eulogy.

To Mr. and Mrs. Grady were born six children: John, who died in Ireland, James, Joseph and Mary, who died here. A daughter Katheryn Grady and a son, M. E. Grady, remain to comfort the bereaved widow , and bring cheer into her declining years.

The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at St. Mary ’s church at McGregor, Rev. Father Dowling having charge of the services. Internment in the Catholic cemetery. Many beautiful floral, emblems were sent as tributes of esteem. The bereaved relatives have the deepest sympathy of their host of friends in their sorrow. The pall bearers were: John Burke, John Geraghty, John Whalen, Dan Donahue, A . B. Hahn, Herman Wingen.

CARD OF THANKS.
We wish to tender our heartfelt thanks to all our neighbors and friends for their many deeds of kindness, during the great sorrow that came to our home, in the illness and death of our beloved husband and father.
Mrs. Anthony Grady, Kathryn Grady, M. E. Grady
