At Camborne, Cornwall, England, March 16, 1846, John T. Trezona was born. His parents were of sturdy, intelligent English stock, possessing noble traits of life and strong religious qualities of character. His father was John Trezona and his mother's maiden name was Maria Rowe.

When he was only six months of age, his parents, following the trend of many others, crossed the great Atlantic and made their home in favored America. In the picturesque mining community called Vita Grand, near Galena and Scales Mound, Illinois, this new home was established and here John T. Trezona was destined to spend his boyhood days and grow to manhood.

Eleven other children were born in this family but four of these died in infancy. The remaining grew to maturity. One sister and one brother have preceded him in the roll of the departed. They are Maria Trezona, who died recently June 4th last month, and William who passed away Feb. 16, 1909.

The surviving brothers and sisters are Richard Trezona of Strawberry Point; Henry Trezona of Campbell, Cal.; and Misses Mary, Jennie and Esther, who make their home at Scales Mound, Illinois.

As a boy John exhibited a delight in books and study and after finishing his work in the country school, he entered the high school at Schullsburg, Wis., later taking a course at the Bayles Business College then located in Freeport. With this most excellent equipment for life's duties, he began to teach school, first near Schullsburg, and later at the Blackstone school near Apple River, Illinois.

John T. Trezona was a man of strong religious character. Having been reared in the atmosphere of a good christian home and having come in contact in early years with those principles of conduct which are essential to good character as well as promotive of a life of unselfish service for his fellow men, it was but natural that these traits were outstanding characteristics of his life.

He lived not alone to pay his first duty to the splendid family which he reared, not only to assist in their education and development of character and thrift, but also to assist in making the community in which he lived better because he lived.

He used his influence continually for righteousness. He stood square against all deceit, trickery or questionable methods in business dealings. He possessed a kindly and patient disposition and made many friends and never purposely an enemy. If he perchance did, he loved his enemies. He lived a life of service.

Hi service in the church was varied and he took an active interest for over forty years. He was a regular attendant at all the services of the church, health permitting. He served in nearly every capacity. Teacher in the Sabbath school, Sunday school superintendent, Class leader and has been for some time an honored and efficient trustee and steward of the Methodist Episcopal Church of this town.

During the years of his young manhood, while special meetings were in progress at Schullisburg, Wis., under the leadership of the pastor Christopher Cook, since deceased, he came into a larger experience of things spiritual and shortly afterwards united in membership with the Methodist Episcopal Church at Schullsburg at the age of twenty five.

On the 21st day of May 1872 he united in marriage with Pricilla Jewell. For one year they made their new home at Schllsburg, then going to the family homestead at Scales Mound where for two years he engaged in farming, then they returned to Schullsburg for three years, and from there they moved to the farm in the vicinity of County Corners, where since 1876 he has made his home until recent years in town.

The following children were born in this happy christian home where they grew to maturity, and from whence all but the youngest have gone to establish new homes. Bessie E. now Mrs. Frank Nichols of Strawberry Point; Annie M. now Mrs. Arthur Puffet of Selma, Kans.; John who is in business at Winner, So. Dakota; Willie who is on a farm at county Corners; Nettie now Mrs. Guy M. Harris of Galena, Ill; Prof. Lee Trezona of Strawberry Point; Dr. Earl Trezona of St. Charles, Ill.; and Miss Mabel Trezona who has been with her parents in the home.

A few years ago, he retired from active work on the farm and moved to Strawberry Point. For several years his health seemed to be failing. Some months ago, his condition grew critical and he consulted some excellent physicians but the disease, which was destined to do its work, seemed to be of a deep seated nature. He bade his family farewell and with a brave heart and strong faith in God, he went to the Hahnemann Hospital, Chicago, to undergo an operation. This appeared to be quite successful but other complications of a dangerous nature were at work and he passed away as a result of uremic poisoning last Monday morning, July 22. The news came as a shock to friends and loved ones. Altho his case seemed to be critical, yet those nearest him entertained a hopeful attitude for his recovery.

During the last days of his suffering, he exhibited the faith of a christian, strong in his hopes of a spiritual victory and a better life beyond this transient abode. It was a pleasure to him to greet friends and neighbors. His memory will remain precious to all who knew him best.

The funeral was held from the home Wednesday. Services were in charge of the pastor, Rev. W.S. Sylvester and he was assisted by the former pastor, Rev. Will Piper of Maynard.

Card of Thanks
The undersigned take this means of thanking the neighbors and friends for their many acts of kindness and help during the sickness and death of husband and father.
Mrs. J.T. Trezona and family
