Died, on Wednesday morning, February 9th, Mrs. Henry Brandtman, after an illness of about ten days, of heart failure. The deceased was born in Mecklenberg, Germany, on March 12th, 1836, and came to this country in 1860 and was united in marriage with Henry Brandtmann the same year. They settled on a farm near Elkport, where they made their home up to about fourteen years ago, when they retired from active farm life and moved to Elkport, where they made their home ever since.
The deceased was in fair health up to several months ago, when she had a slight stroke, from which she never fully recovered, and at the time of her death had reached the age of 79 years, 10 months and 27 days. She leaves to mourn her death, besides her husband, six children, as follows: Mrs. Herman F. Mueller, of Elkport; Mrs. Henry Dickman, of Garnavillo; Will Brandtman, of Luana; John, of Elkader; and Charles, of Elkport; also two brothers, Chas. and Fred Thies, of Luana, and one sister, Mrs. Fred Wendt, of Garnavillo, besides twenty-one grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Grandma Brandtmann, as she was commonly known, was a devout member of the Lutheran Church for the past five years; also a member of the Frauen Verein, the members of which participated in a body at her funeral, which was held on Sunday afternoon at the Lutheran Church, Rev. W. Paulsen officiating, who paid the deceased splendid tribute in his eloquent sermon, which he so ably delivered. The church was filled beyond its capacity by the deceased's numerous friends, the floral offerings were elaborate and the Lutheran Church choir rendered several appropriate selections.
Interment was at the Lutheran cemetery. May she rest in peace.
Card of Thanks was signed by Henry Brandtmann and children.
