The death of Christian Oehrle, who had been a resident of Garber for over forty years, occurred at his home in that city Wednesday morning, January 5th.
Deceased was born in Wurtemburg, Germany, March 28th, 1848. When eighteen years old he came to the United States and located in Prairie du Chien, Wis., where in 1873 he was married to Miss Mary Bailer, and they soon went to Garber, (then East Elkport) and he followed his trade of wagon maker. His wife died about twenty-three years ago.
Eight children were born to them, all of whom are living: William and Charles, of Butte, Mont.; the former and his little son Leonard being in attendance at the funeral; Herman, of Walla Walla, Wash.; Mrs. Charles Nichols, of Elkader; Mrs. Leslie Nichols, of Garber; Lawrence, of Dyersville, Iowa; George and Emma, at home. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and one sister, who still resides in Germany.
The funeral services were held at the home last Saturday morning, conducted by Rev. Isaac Cassel, and burial was in Mount Harmony cemetery.
