Funeral services for Elgie Ferguson were held Wednesday, June 25, 1986 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Monona, with Pastor Harold O. Ward officiating. Pallbearers were Gene Ferguson, Mick Ferguson, Marvin Brainard, Kevin Becker, Jim Ernst, and Steve Goltz. Burial was in St. Paul's Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home was in charge of services.
Elgie C. Ferguson was born March 17, 1891, the son of John and Isabelle (Resmus) Ferguson, on a farm 1 mile north of Monona, Clayton County, Iowa. He attended the rural school. On March 30, 1916 he was united in marriage to Viola Ida Scheffert at her family home. To this union a son Eugene was born. He farmed until his retirement in 1954 and they moved to Monona. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He died Monday, June 23, 1986 at the Good Samaritan Center, Waukon, where he had been a resident for several years.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Viola, on January 3, 1983, His son Eugene E. on March 4, 1984, two sisters, Laura and Cora, eight brothers, Duran, Wilbert, Robert, Clarence, Alfred, Herbert, Ward, and Francis.
Surviving are four grandchildren, Sandy Mielke, Eugene D. Ferguson, Pat Brainard, all of Monona, and Mick Ferguson of Marion, Iowa, eight great-grandchildren, Nieces and nephews.
