Mrs. Merriel Hallberg, 64, of rural McGregor, Iowa, died suddenly Thursday, December 26, 1985 at the Elkader Community Hospital. She was born October 22, 1922 at Elgin, Iowa, to Julies and Mabel Amundson Johnson. She married Otto Hallberg January 4, 1940 at Elkader, Iowa. Otto died January 4, 1981.

She is survived by two daughters Mrs. Darlene Westmeier of Cuba City, WI, and Mrs. Elaine Phelps of Elkader, Iowa; two sons Donald of St. Olaf, Iowa, and Dean of McGregor, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; her mother Mabel Johnson of Elkader, Iowa; a brother Alvin Johnson of Marquette, Iowa; a sister Mrs. Alice Schlitter of Dallas, Texas.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 30, 1985 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural McGregor, with Rev. Dan Christensen officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
