Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 4 May 1916. Strawberry Point columns.
Geo. Hesner, the third son of Andrew and Frederica Hesner, was born in Lodomillo township, Clayton county, Iowa, November 23rd, 1857, and departed this life at his home in Strawberry Point, April 20th, 1916, aged 58 years, 3 months and 6 days. He was married to Miss Mary Ann Corkery on January 2_th, 1881. To this union were born eight children: Dr. Geo. E. Hesner, of Topeka, Kan.; Mrs. Nellie M. Hesner, of Sumner; Morris Hesner and Mrs. Lillie Gamm, of this place; Claire C. Hesner, of Independence, and Harold and the Misses Vera and Freda still in the parental home. There are also two grandchildren. Mr. Hesner is also survived by two brothers, John Hesner, of Lamont, and Charles A. Hesner, of Edgewood, and one sister, Mrs. Anna Wandel, of Edgewood. About nine years ago Mr. Hesner and family moved to Strawberry Point from their farm seven miles northeast of town, purchasing a pleasant home, where they have since resided. Mr. Hesner was a prosperous farmer, a kind neighbor and a devoted father and husband. He had nearly recovered from an attack of typhoid pneumonia when he was stricken with spinal meningitis. Everything was done that could be to baffle the disease, but to no avail, and the end soon came. His death was a sudden and heavy blow to his family and friends and brought sadness to the whole community. Funeral services were held at the home on Monday afternoon, May 1st, and, by Mr. Hesner's request, conducted by Rev. C. H. True, of Edgewood, an old-time friend and neighbor. The remains were laid to rest in our beautiful cemetery.
