Henry Jungblut, Sr. died at his home in Elkader on Saturday morning, May 20th, 1916, at the advanced age of 71 years, 4 months and 21 days, after a lingering illness.
He was born at Kummer, Germany, December 29th, 1844, and served his native country in the war of 1866 and 1870-71. On November 3rd, 1871, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Bartram and the following year they emigrated to America, locating at Boston, Mass., for a short time, later coming to Iowa, where they lived on a farm in Read township for some time and later settled on a farm in Boardman township, southeast of Elkader, where they made their home until about twelve years ago, when they moved to Elkader, where they have since resided.
To them were born eight children, five of whom, with the faithful wife, survive him. The remaining children are William, of Guttenberg, and Henry, Fred, John and Mrs. Anna Gusta, all of Elkader.
The funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the home on High Street to the German Church, Rev. C. H. Franke officiating, and interment was made in the East Side cemetery.
