David A. Smith met with an accident last Thursday forenoon, which caused his death. While engaged in taking out a pump at the App Lovett farm the rope holding the pulley broke and the block struck Dave Smith on the head, breaking his skull. He lived several hours after the accident and died about 1:30 p.m. without regaining consciousness. Dave Smith was born the 15th day of October 1859, and was married to Hattie Garlow on December 22nd, 1886, and was at the time of his death 56 years, 6 months and 5 days old. He leaves to mourn his death one brother, Sam Smith, and three sons, Ray L. of Minneapolis, Clifford C., of Chicago, and Otto J., of San Francisco; one daughter, Mrs. R. O. Singmaster, of Minot, S.D., and three sisters, Mrs. Jos. Baxter and Mrs. Allen Hansel, of Edgewood, and Mrs. Marion Hansel, of Manchester, Iowa. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon at Mount Harmony Cemetery, Rev. Baldwin, of the United Brethren, officiating. The pall bearers were App Lovett, John Schnack, Morris Bowman, Martin Thein, Harry Brown and Wm. Baker. May he rest in peace.

A second article covering the accident in this column names his daughter as Alice, his brother as Samuel, and notes that David had been making his homme with his brother Samuel for the past few years.
