Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 16 Nov. 1916.
Death brought to a close the long earthly career of John Lindenbauer on Monday evening, November 13th, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Barske, in Boardman township. Mr. Lindenbauer was born in Bofingen, Germany, in 1822, and was aged 94 years, 2 months and 3 days at the time of his death. He had been in failing health for the last few months and this, together with his advanced years, hastened the end.
He was married in 1851 in Germany to Dorothea Schrampfer and two years later came to America. He settled in Rochester, N.Y., remaining there for two years, then removed to Madison, Wis. After living there a few years he came to Clayton County, where he remained the rest of his life.
He was the father of four children, one son and three daughters. His wife preceded him in death six years ago, having died in 1910.
He is survived by his son Herman, of Midvale, Idaho, and three daughters, Mrs. Wm. Barske, of Boardman township, with whom he lived for a number of years, Mrs. Lydia Leuchtenmacher, of Highland township, and Mrs. Caroline Schrampher, of Elkader, also thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Deceased was a farmer and a highly respected citizen. He was one of the oldest inhabitants of Clayton County and had experienced the life and hardships of the early settlers.
Funeral services were held from the Ev. Frieden's Church this afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. C. H. Franke officiating. Interment was made in the East Side cemetery.
