The funeral of Mrs. Margaret Byrnes, who passed away Sunday morning at the age of 90 years, was held Tuesday morning at the Sacred Heart Church in Cox Creek, Rev. Father Casey holding requiem mass. Burial took place in Cox Creek cemetery. Margaret McTaggart was born in the county of Dairy, Ireland, in November, 1826. At the age of 19 years she came to America, living three years in St. John's, New Brunswick. From there she went to Boston, Mass., where later she was united in marriage to James Byrnes. They came to Clayton County and located on a farm, in 1856. Mr. Byrnes and two sons, James, Jr., and John, preceded her in death. She leaves five children, Mrs. Sarah Thyne, of Doon, Iowa; Mary, William, Eunice and Mrs. Kate Glennon, all of this place, and eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; also one brother, Michael McTaggart, of this place. About four years' ago Mrs. Byrnes moved from the farm in Cox Creek to Strawberry Point, where she was tenderly cared for by her children. She was a devout and faithful member of the Catholic church.
