Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 26 Oct. 1916.
Death claimed Mrs. Patrick Donlon last Thursday morning at 2:30 o'clock, at the home of her son, John Donlon. Deceased was 83 years old and death was due to her advanced age. For several weeks she had been failing and knowing that her end was fast approaching, she summoned her children to her bedside. They were all with her when her release came.
Mary Cullinane was born in the county of Waterford, Ireland, and came to this country when a girl of fourteen. She located in Worcester, Mass., where she was married in 1852 to Patrick Donlon. After ten years residence at Worcester they moved to Cox Creek, and after a short time to Highland township, where Mr. Donlon died sixteen years ago.
She was the mother of eleven children, seven sons and four daughters, all surviving her but one daughter, who died in infancy.
Burial was from St. Joseph's Church Saturday morning, with a Solemn High Mass, at which her son, Father Luke Donlon, of Centralia, Iowa, acted as celebrant with Fathers Minogue, of Elkport, and Hetherington, of Volga, as deacon and sub-deacon. Father Reilley was master of ceremonies and in his sermon paid a fine tribute to the noble character of Mrs. Donlon. A large funeral cortege followed the body to its final resting place beside that of her husband in St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery.
