Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 26 Oct. 1916.
On Thursday, October 19th, at 7 a.m., occurred the death of John J. Warnk at his home near Communia, at the age of 89 years, 8 months and 13 days. Old age was the cause of his death, although he had been enjoying fairly good health and had been ill only a few days before the end came.
Deceased was born in Doemitz, Germany, February 6th, 1827, and came to this country when a young man of 30 years. He was married to Margaret Meier in 1862, in Cox Creek. To this union were born six children, three sons and three daughters, one daughter having died in infancy.
He is survived by three sons, John, Frank and Henry, two daughters, Mrs. Geo. J. Roeder and Mrs. Adolph Krieg, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of Cox Creek township.
The funeral was held Sunday from the Ev. Frieden's Church, Rev. C. H. Franke officiating. Interment was in the Elkader East Side cemetery.
Many sorrowing friends and neighbors attended the funeral and all mourn the loss of a man who for 58 years dwelt among them and was respected and loved by all.
