Bertha Enbelhardt was born January 9th, 1844, in Liepen County, Anklam, Gota Poinmern, Germany. She came to the United States in 1862. On the 28th of October, 1863, she was married to Ferdinand Reinke, living on a farm for years. They finally settled down in Farmersburg, where Mr. Reinke died August 31st, 1907. Thirteen children were born to this union, six of them preceding the parents in death. The living children are: Anna, Mrs. H. Gilster, Herman Reinke, Mary, Mrs. Schiff, John Reinke, Bertha, Mrs. Kuzback, Charlie Reinke, and Emma, Mrs. Biehl. Mrs. Reinke died October 18th, at 11:30 a.m. at the home of Mrs. Henry Gilster, after a short illness, the cause of her death being heart disease. Besides her children, twenty-four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one brother, H. Engelhardt, two sisters, Mrs. Krambeer and Mrs. Heckendorf, also mourn her departure. Her age was 72 years, 9 months and 9 days. The funeral was held Saturday forenoon with services at the house at 9:30 o'clock, after which the cortege moved to the Lutheran Church, where services were conducted by Rev. Braun. The body was laid to rest in the Clayton Center cemetery.
