Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 12 Oct. 1916.
On Monday evening, October 2nd, the community was greatly shocked to learn that Will Adams had suddenly been stricken in death. For some months there had been evident signs of failing health, but for some weeks he had seemed better, and had steadily kept up his work in his barber shop, and nothing unusual had been observed on Monday up to the time that he told that he was sick, then in a few minutes the end had come.
William Quincey Adams was born August 5th, 1848, in Brook County, West Va. He came to Clayton County, Iowa, with his parents, Benjamin and Nancy Adams, in the year 1856, so for sixty years he had been a resident of Farmersburg. In November, 1891, he was married to Sarah Brown, who survives him, and with his three brothers is left to mourn his going. The brothers are James T. Adams, of Farmersburg; E. W., of Milwaukee, Wis.; and Frank M., of Seattle, Wash.
We do not believe in flattery, even of the dead, but when we say that few men in this community would be so much missed as Mr. Adams, we think it will receive general endorsement. For many years he has been secretary of the Masonic Lodge, the Board of Education and correspondent for our local newspapers. He has been a leader in church and Sunday School work, acting as janitor and doing the work as few would have done it, always ready to help the sick or afflicted. It was quite useful work and the world is better for it.
The writer of this saw him a few hours before his death as he was returning from his Monday work of making the church ready for the coming Sunday. When we heard of his death we first thought as we called to mind his useful work for others, was who will take his place.
The funeral services were held at the M.E. Church on Wednesday afternoon, by his pastor, the Masonic Order having charge of the burial services at the grave.
