The remains of Martin J. Daly, formerly a well-known resident of Elkader, were brought here yesterday for burial. He died Monday, June 26th, at the home of his son, Dr. J. J. Daly, of Decorah, with whom he had lived for the past ten or twelve years. Last December he suffered from a stroke of paralysis but practically recovered until a second stroke about two weeks ago, from which time he gradually sank to rest.

Martin John Daly was born in Roscommon, Ireland, March 13th, 1843, and came to this country with his parents when about ten years of age. He lived in Illinois for about six years and then went to Decorah, where he learned the blacksmith trade. in 1868 he came to Elkader and started business for himself.

In 1869 he was married to Miss Margaret O'Brien, of McGregor, and five children, three sons and two daughters, were born to them, all of whom are living. They are: Miss Mary Daly, of Opal, S.D.; Dr. Joseph J. Daly, of Decorah; Dr. Wm. T. Daly, of Cresco; Martin A. Daly, of St. Paul; and Miss Julia, now Sister Immaculate at Dubuque. Mrs. Daly died in 1902, since which time Mr. Daly lived with his children, spending most of his time at the home of Dr. J. J. Daly, at Decorah.

The funeral services were held yesterday, mass being celebrated by Rev. Father Haws, at Decorah at 8 o'clock a.m. and then the remains were brought here for burial by the side of Mrs. Daly in St. Joseph's cemetery, the _____ _______ in automobiles and the services being held here shortly after noon.

A kindly genial soul has gone to eternal rest, but his memory lives in the hearts of his children and his friends.
