Herman Katschkowsky passed away at his home in Elkader on Monday, June 19th, 1916, at 12:30 o'clock, after an illness of about two and one-half years, at the age of 59 years, 2 months and 27 days, death being due to cancer.
He was born at Riesenkirch, Germany, on March 22nd, 1857, the son of Ludwig and Augusta Katschkowsky, and came to America when fifteen years of age. On April 3rd, 1880, he was married at Clayton Center to Miss Pauline Schmidt, who survives him. He is also survived by three sons and one daughter, George and Fred, on farms in this township; William, living in Elgin, and Mrs. Carrie Hochhaus, also of Boardman township. One brother, Adolph Katschkowsky, Sr., of Elkader, and one half-sister, Mrs. Ida Scherr, of Dubuque, and four grandchildren are also left to mourn his departure.
During October of 1910 Mr. Katschkowsky and family moved to Elkader from the farm and have resided here ever since. He was a member of the Ev. Frieden's Church, of the, I.O.O.F. lodge, M.W.A., B.A.Y., and the Fraternal Union.
The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Ev. Frieden's Church, Rev. C. H. Franke officiating, with interment in the East Side cemetery.
