Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 1 Jun. 1916. Strawberry Point column.
Chas. S. Boynton was born at Rodman, Jefferson County, N.Y., January 16th, 1821, and died May 27th, 1916, aged 95 years, 4 months and 11 days. He was married to Clarissa Edmunds, July 7th, 1845. To this union were born six children, John and Victor, now deceased: Charles H., of Strawberry Point; David F., of Norfolk, Neb.; Geo. H., of Buell, Idaho; Mrs. Dora Lamphere, of Palarimo, Cal. He also raised W. C. Boynton, a nephew, from childhood to manhood, knowing no difference from his own children. He came from New York to Iowa in the spring of 1857, settling upon a farm four miles east of Strawberry Point, where he resided until the fall of 1891, when he sold the farm and moved to Shannon City, Iowa, residing there until the death of his wife on April 29th, 1905, since when he has lived with his son Chas. at this place. Being a pioneer the deceased saw this town grow from practically nothing to its present attainments. He saw the country converted from raw prairie to its present prosperous agricultural condition and the timbered country cleared and prepared for production. He labored hard most of his life. The deceased enjoyed much longer life than most of the race of men. In committing his physical remains to dust we also commit his spirit to the care of its God. Funeral services were held at the C. H. Boynton home Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. C. J. Rose, pastor of the M. E. Church, after which the remains were laid to rest in our local cemetery.
