Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 31 Aug. 1916. Read column.

Mrs. Marion Carolina Funk, wife of Ludwig Funk, deceased, passed away on Monday, August 28th, 1916. She was born in Hohendorf, Pommern, in the Fatherland, July 27th, 1835. Her marriage with Ludwig Funk occurred on the 12th of October, 1861, in her native land. Mr. and Mrs. Funk, with their two sons, Carl and Frederich, crossed the turbulent Atlantic in 1883, the United States of America being their point of destination. Arriving in the land of freedom, the family sojourned directly to Read, and after a few years' residence here they bought a small farm one mile west of Read. Here the husband and father died in 1902, after a happy union of forty-one years. Here, living together with her son, Carl, Mrs. Funk spent the declining years of her life in a quiet and peaceful widowhood. With palsied limb and hesitating step, her spirit receding, the vanishing soul silently slipped into the restful sea of Eternity. The deceased had been suffering with dropsy for some time, but the end came unaware and without any special premonition. She is survived by her three sons, Carl and John, of Read, and Fred of Luana, and two sisters, Mrs. Marie Leu and Mrs. Charlotte Maehl. The funeral was held on Thursday, August 31st, and was largely attended, Rev. Athenstadt officiating. Mrs. Funk died at the ripe old age of 81 years, 1 month and 1 day. Requiescat in pace.
