Peter Broel passed away on his farm in Cox Creek township, Sunday, Aug. 27th, at 3:00 p.m. His death was due to injuries sustained in a fall from a wagon Friday.
Deceased was born in Cologne, Germany, May 7th, 1841, a little over 75 years ago and came to this country when a boy of eleven. For the past 63 years he has resided on the farm where he died.
Besides John P., the son with whom he made his home, Mr. Broel is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Emma Meyer and Mrs. Lizzie Mentzel, of Osborne, and Mrs. Hannah Breitsprecher, of Belmont, Iowa, and nine grandchildren. His wife, three daughters and one son preceded him to the Great Beyond.
Many other relatives and numerous friends mourn his departure and feel deeply the loss of a man who was a loving father, a kind neighbor and a loyal friend.
The funeral services were held both at the home and at the German church at Elkader on Wednesday afternoon, Rev. C. H. Franke officiating. The remains were tenderly laid to rest in the East Side cemetery.
