Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 20 July 1916.
About sunset, on Sunday evening, July 9th, 1916, the angel of death quietly entered the home of Francis Farmer, in Cox Creek township, and called to its eternal home the soul of Henry Farmer, at the age of about 52 years.
He was born in Wisconsin in 1864 and was the fifth son of James and Nancy Farmer. When but a child he came with his parents and brothers to Clayton county, Iowa, where they settled on a farm in Cox Creek township, where his boyhood and manhood days were spent.
His early ambition was for the farm, always clinging to his chosen work.
He was failing in health for the past three months and all that loving hearts and hands could do was offered in hopes of his recovery, but of no avail. He died at the home of his brother Francis, fortified by all the rites of the Catholic Church, in which he was baptized.
On Tuesday morning at ten o'clock the funeral was held at Sacred Heart Church in Cox Creek and was largely attended. Requiem high mass was celebrated by Rev. Father Casey who administered to his every spiritual need before death and offered up the "Holy Sacrifice" for the repose of his soul.
Following the church services his mortal remains were carried to the grave by Gus Dillon, C. Nacker, Albert Meder, John McDermot, Fred Alderson and Dave Kenneally, and laid to rest beside loved ones on the sunny hillside.
Left to feel the loss of a kind brother are James, of Postville; Patrick and John, of Greeley; Francis and Will, of this place. His memory will be long remembered by a large number of relatives and friends.
