Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 6 July 1916. Local News Notes columns.
Last Thursday Mrs. W. A. Preston received a telegram announcing the death of Virgil F. Davis at his home in Elkhart, Ind., on Thursday, June 28th, following an illness of less than a week from heart trouble.
Mr. Davis was born in Dubuque June 3rd, 1851, and spent his boyhood days in Elkader. He was married here to Miss Rose Whitney, who, with three sons, survives him. The sons are Elmer W. Davis, of Seattle, Wash.; Louis C. Davis, of Bay City, Mich.; and Donald D. Davis, of Elkhart, Ind.
The family left Elkader in the early 80's and has lived in Elkhart for some years.
Mr. Davis comes from one of Elkader's pioneer families, intimately connected with the early history of this section. Many of our older residents will sorrow at the passing of an old friend and sympathize with the stricken family. Mr. Davis made a brief visit here only a few weeks ago.
(Note: Any relationship of the deceased to the Preston family is unknown.)
