William Ferdinand Barske was born Oct. 3rd, 1849, at Koeslin, province of Pommerania, Germany. He came to this country in 1868, and for a time stayed at Watertown, Wis., after which he lived in Iowa and Kansas for some years until 1880, when he settled on a farm in Boardman township, Clayton county, Iowa, which has been his home ever since.
In 1885 he was married to Rosa Lindenbauer, to which union were born five children, three of which preceded their father in death.
Deceased was troubled with asthma for some years past, but was not confined to his bed until about a week before his death, when dropsy set in. He died Sunday, May 14th, at seven o'clock in the morning at the age of 61 years, 7 months and 11 days.
His departure is mourned by his grief-stricken wife and his children, William and Sophia, who are both at home. He also leaves two brothers and one sister, viz: Fred, Richard and Mrs. Wilhelmine Boettcher, of Elkader, a number of other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the house and 2 o'clock at the German church, Rev. Franke conducting the same. Interment at the East Side cemetery.
