Barton Olmsted Curtis was born in Monona, Aug. 1st, 1868, and died Aug. 3rd, 1911, aged 43 years and 2 days. His boyhood was spent in Monona and upon completing the high school he entered Eastman College at Poughkeepsie, N.Y., graduating in 1886. The winter of 1893-94 he spent with his parents in Iowa City, taking studies in the state university. He graduated from Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, in 1897, with the degree of Civil Engineer. His marriage to Miss Minnie Erwin occurred Oct. 26, 1901, at Bethlehem. He leaves a sorrowing wife, one son, Henry E., and one daughter, Dorothy, his second child, Ruth, having passed away in infancy. The first to break the chain in his father's family, Barton is mourned by his parents, one brother, Rev. R. A. Curtis, of Coeur de Alene, Idaho, and three sisters, Mrs. A. G. Bush, Mrs. Clara L. Otis and Miss Stella. The funeral service was conducted at the house and grave by Rev. W. E. King.
