Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 17 Aug. 1911.
Kathrina Maria Elisabeth Wistrick was born at Hanover, Germany, May 12th, 1842. With her uncle and aunt Behn she left the old country in 1868 and came to Clayton county, Iowa. Two years later she was married to Peter Stallbaum and moved on the farm in Cox Creek township, which has always been her home. Their union was blessed with five children, of which the first born died in infancy.
Mr. Stallbaum died in 1896. With the children, the mother stayed on the farm. After three of them had been married and moved into homes of their own, she kept house for John, the only son remaining at home.
On Tuesday, Aug. 8th, Mrs. Stallbaum was badly hurt by a horse, and although she received the best of care from her children and a trained nurse, her injuries were such that she could not recover. After a week of intense suffering she was relieved of all her pain on Tuesday, Aug. 15th, at the advanced age of 69 years, 3 months and 3 days.
Her departure is mourned by her children: John, at home; Louis, on his nearby farm; Marie, wife of Henry Cords; and Minnie, married to Henry Possehl. She also leaves 8 grandchildren, 2 brothers in the old country, one brother, Henry Wistrick, of Cox Creek township; one sister in Nebraska and a number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the home of the deceased in Cox Creek township, conducted by Rev. Franke, of Elkader, interment at the Communia cemetery.
