Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 10 Aug. 1911. Elkport and Vicinity column.
Michael L. McMorrow, one of the pioneer settlers of this vicinity, died at his home in Elk township Monday afternoon, after an illness of several months. The deceased was born in Manorhamilton, Ireland, Aug. 11, 1834, and in 1849 he came to America with his parents and settled in Bellefountain, Ohio. In 1856 the family moved to Clayton County, Iowa, and located in Elk township, his present home. On April 10, 1859 he was married at Guttenberg, Ia., to Margaret Boylen. By this union they were blessed with eight children, of which four, John, Samuel, Mary and Theresa, have already preceded him to the grave. The other four who survive him are: Mrs. George Flynn, of Colesburg, Ia.; Mrs. Dyer Hall, of Strawberry Point; Mrs. Dan Collins, of Elkport, Ia.; and Mrs. John Rupple, of Postville, Ia. Mr. McMorrow being a pioneer settler and so well and favorably known, it is unnecessary to add anything further in regard to his past life. The funeral was held Thursday at the Catholic church, Rev. D. T. Minogue officiating. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved relatives.
